Our Vision

Our vision is for a more inclusive democracy built by drawing on the strength of diverse traditions, common values and community togetherness. We envision a socially conscious and informed society that integrates greater participation and representation by Asian Americans. We believe that for such a society to exist we must work within a cross-racial, cross-ethnic framework focused on grassroots power and solidarity.

Guiding Principles and Core Strategies

Our work is guided by the following principles and strategies:

  • Increasing visibility of the rapidly growing Asian American population in the state by lifting up our voices in the public discourse
  • Working within an intersectional framework for racial justice and civil rights
  • Creating structural change as well as greater justice within current systems
  • Building a pipeline for the next generation of Asian American leaders
  • Empowering Asian Americans statewide in civic engagement and movement building by providing resources, training, and education towards a long-term social justice agenda.
  • Connecting existing networks of Asian Americans to support each other
  • Bringing folks together and supporting each other and each other’s issues

Our Values

Equitability and Inclusion: We are committed to increasing and sustaining belonging and racial equity in our organization and through our work. We value the range of different backgrounds people bring to their work, appreciate how those backgrounds make us better at what we do, and strive to create an environment in which everyone, and particularly historically marginalized populations, can thrive.

Connection: We believe in the inherent power of the community. We build supportive and authentic relationships and partnerships to foster a sense of belonging, deepen our ability to achieve our mission, and facilitate a compassionate and empathetic work environment where we assume the best of one another.

Collaboration: We work as a team to achieve big things. Each of us plays an integral part. We also recognize that the whole is stronger than the parts. We will support and encourage each other as we work toward the accomplishment of our mission and the achievement of our vision.

High Impact: Our work is driven by the needs of the community as we build for the future. We are intensely focused on the ultimate outcome of our efforts towards our long-term vision and mission, and direct our energy where it will most effectively shape positive change.

Accountability: We bring heart to our work and are energized to fulfill our mission, because we know, in the words of John Lewis “If not us, who? If not now, when?” We embrace our immense responsibility toward our community and each other as we chart a path forward together. Because we understand what is at stake, we expect and welcome feedback, iteration, and calibration, and are honest with ourselves about what’s working and what’s not.
